Seroprevalence Pattern of Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV-1 & 2) among STI Vulnerable Women Population

Background: Genital infections caused by Herpes Simplex viruses are viewed as the indicators of sexual network in society. Most these asymptomatic and underdiagnosed.
 Aim: To investigate seroprevalences HSV-1 HSV-2 among STI vulnerable women correlate them with clinical other co-viral STIs.
 Study design: A cross sectional retrospective study was conducted on female contacts HIV / positive male partners, who were consulting STD clinics NGOs OP section department Government hospital Chennai, India between October 2006 September 2008.
 Methodology: The included 138 along age matched control group from whom socio-demographic data collected. Serological screening performed using ELISA for detection IgM IgG antibodies to HSV types 1 2 co-positivities HIV, HBV, HCV CMV. Statistical analysis results carried out Chi-square test.
 Results: Overall 79.71% 74.32% recorded respectively group. Proportionate increase symptomatic cases observed individuals showing seropositivities anti-HSV-1/2 IgM, IgM+IgG (combined) antibodies, which correlated primary, reactivated episodic infections. Observation (48.0% vs. 4.05%) (68.29% 25.0%) groups corroborated transmission viruses. Significant percentages viral STIs higher preponderance seropositive than those HSV-1.
 Conclusion: Comprehensive serological its correlation would be very helpful demonstrating impact Wide is necessary estimate actual burden adopt preventive intervention.
